The purpose of this webinar is to review the Senior Program\, its requirements\, and how to maximize your summer. Come out and learn how Crosby Scholars will help guide you through the college admissions process\, FAFSA process\, and support you in making the BIG decision. \nTo help parents/guardians understand and support the Program’s role in the college admission process\, we encourage you to invite your parents/guardians to participate in the webinar as well. However\, a parent may not participate in the Mandatory Rising Senior webinar in place of a student. \nScholars must register in the Crosby portal to gain access to the Zoom meeting login. Then students must be sure to sign in on time and participate in the entire meeting. Attendance credit is awarded to scholars when they complete their Exit Survey at the end of the meeting. This is a program requirement. Juniors who do not meet this requirement will be dismissed and will not be eligible to participate in the Crosby Scholars Program during their senior year.

SUMMARY:* ACT Boot Camp
DESCRIPTION:ACT Boot Camp\nJuniors in NC will take the ACT for free in February at their high schools. The ACT is one of the entrance exams used by colleges to determine admission. It is critical that students put time and effort into preparing for these tests. The Crosby Scholars program has partnered with Educational Testing Consultants (ETC) to host an ACT Bootcamp for 25 Juniors. \nThis ACT Bootcamp will consist of 3 Saturday sessions. Students must commit to attend all 3 dates in order to participate. Each sessions lasts 2 hours\, at Wallace Educational Forum: \n\nJanuary 11th \nJanuary 25th  \nFebruary 1st \n\n\nThe ETC ACT test preparation program covers all the skills needed for success on the ACT. Class sessions use real ACT problems so that you know just what to expect on test day. The ACT program consists of 6 hours of classroom instruction by an experienced instructor\, together with additional problems for further practice. \nMATH TOPICS INCLUDE: \n\ntechniques for picking numbers for problems with variables in the answer choices\nstrategies for solving complicated geometry problems by breaking them into smaller parts\ntactics for translating difficult word problems into equations\n\nREADING TOPICS INCLUDE: \n\nhow to read a passage for structure rather than content\napproaches for quickly identifying the parts of a passage needed to answer a question\ntechniques for answer questions with unfocused stems\n\nENGLISH TOPICS INCLUDE: \n\nan overview of the most common mistakes in sentence correction items\nspotting correct uses of idiomatic speech\nthe important role of punctuation in sentence correction items\n\nSCIENCE REASONING TOPICS INCLUDE: \n\ntechniques for extracting information from charts and graphs quickly and efficiently\ntips for comparing and contrasting two or more experiments or studies\nspotting positive and negative correlations in charts and graphs\n\nGENERAL TOPICS INCLUDE: \n\nutilizing the process of elimination\ntime management strategies\nreducing test anxiety\nrecognizing common distractors\n\nRemember to submit at least 2 hours of community service  for 2019-2020 using this link:  https://forms.gle/tGwHFLKfcWwAhtKL6

DESCRIPTION:HBCU College Tour – North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University and Winston-Salem State University \nA campus visit is your opportunity to get a firsthand view of a college. On November 11th\, the Crosby Scholars program will offer a FREE day trip for interested students to visit two different universities. During these visits\, students will have the opportunity to tour campuses\, attend admissions presentations\, and more. Space is limited\, so register as soon as possible! \nTo secure a spot on the tour: \nFirst\, you must register online in the Crosby Scholars portal. \nNext\, you must submit a Parent Permission Form to your Crosby Scholars representative or to the Crosby Scholars office (by fax\, or e-mail a picture of your signed permission form to ebrooks@crosbyscholarsrowan.org) by Friday\, November 8th. This form is attached to the event. Failure to submit a completed permission form by the deadline can result in forfeiting your spot on the tour to someone on the waiting list. \nMonday\, November 11th: North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University and Winston-Salem State University \nThe bus will leave from the parking lot of Extra Space Storage (725 Jake Alexander Blvd) at 9:30 am. Don’t be late! The bus is scheduled to return at 5:00 pm. \nLunch will be provided.
