DESCRIPTION:SAT Boot Camp\nThe SAT is one of the entrance exams used by colleges to determine admission. It is critical that students put time and effort into preparing for this test. The Crosby Scholars program has partnered with Educational Testing Consultants (ETC) to host an SAT Bootcamp for 25 Seniors/Juniors. \nThis SAT Bootcamp will consist of 3 Saturday sessions. Students must commit to attend all 3 dates in order to participate. Each session will be held at RCCC building 600 and lasts 2 hours\, from 9:45 am – 11:45 am: \n\nSeptember 7th\,\nSeptember 14th\nSeptember 21st\n\nThe ETC SAT test preparation program covers all the skills needed for success on the SAT. Class sessions use real SAT problems so that you know just what to expect on test day. The SAT program consists of 6 hours of classroom instruction by an experienced instructor\, together with additional problems for further practice. \nMATH TOPICS INCLUDE: \n\ntechniques for picking numbers for problems with variables in the answer choices\nstrategies for solving complicated geometry problems by breaking them into smaller parts\ntactics for translating difficult word problems into equations\n\nREADING TOPICS INCLUDE: \n\nhow to read a passage for structure rather than content\napproaches for quickly identifying the parts of a passage needed to answer a question\ntechniques for answer questions with unfocused stems\n\nENGLISH TOPICS INCLUDE: \n\nan overview of the most common mistakes in sentence correction items\nspotting correct uses of idiomatic speech\nthe important role of punctuation in sentence correction items\n\nGENERAL TOPICS INCLUDE: \n\nutilizing the process of elimination\ntime management strategies\nreducing test anxiety\nrecognizing common distractors\n\nRemember to submit at least 2 hours of community service  for 2019-2020 using this link:  https://forms.gle/tGwHFLKfcWwAhtKL

DESCRIPTION:Each Crosby Scholar is required to attend one Crosby Academy per school year. \nEach student will participate in 2 workshops that focus on personal and academic skills to increase potential for success in both high school and college.\nLOCATION: \nRowan-Cabarrus Community College (North Campus – 600 Bldg)\n1333 Jake Alexander Boulevard South\, Salisbury\, NC \nAcademy will be held from 9:30am-11:45am. Please eat before you arrive\, NO FOOD will be provided. \nFollow our signs on campus to Building 600 for student drop-off\, registration\, etc.  \nCheck-in from 9:10am-9:30am.  You must stay for the entire Academy and submit an attendance sheet in order to receive credit for this program requirement. The event will conclude at 11:45am. Please pick-up students promptly at the end of Academy. \n\nParents please note\, by allowing your student(s) to attend the Crosby Scholars Academy\, you are agreeing to the terms of the Parent Partnership Agreement located in your student’s portal. This agreement will remain in effect for the duration of your student’s participation in the program.  Should you not agree with these terms\, you are required to contact the Executive Director\,Jessica Vess\,  before allowing your student to attend the Crosby Scholars Academy. Once your student attends Academy\, the agreement is in effect until the student voluntarily withdraws from the program or does not fulfill a program requirement.
