Freshmen ~ Setting Sights on College!
Welcome to high school and to the Crosby Scholars High School Program. Preparing for college starts now! Decisions you make in 9th grade matter ~ classes in which you enroll in 9th grade matter ~ grades you achieve in 9th grade matter! As a Crosby Scholar, you have made the decision to prepare for college enrollment. We want to help you achieve this goal. Involve your family as your support system, and get to know your high school counselor.
Students interested in enrolling in the Program must submit an application at the beginning of the school year. Scholars who completed the Program in 8th grade are automatically enrolled in the Program freshman year at the high school they choose to attend.
The Crosby Scholars Academy offers students academic and personal development workshops on a variety of skill enhancement topics that support student achievement and college planning. Freshmen and sophomores are required to attend one Crosby Scholars Academy offered in the fall. Scholars must register to attend an academy session through their Crosby Scholars student portal.
Students can select from a number of sessions that include: The ABC’s of College, test-taking and study skills, career exploration, strategies for success, communication, social media/cyber bullying, etc. Scholars attend 2 classes during Crosby Scholar Academy.
Parents please note by allowing your student(s) to attend the Crosby Scholars Academy, you are agreeing to the terms of the Parent Partnership Agreement located in your student’s portal. This agreement will remain in effect for the duration of your student’s participation in the program. Should you not agree with these terms, you are required to contact the Executive Director at email@example.com before allowing your student to attend the Crosby Scholars Academy. Once your student attends the academy, the agreement is in effect until the student voluntarily withdraws from the program or does not fulfill a program requirement.

2018-2019 Deadline: March 15, 2019
Crosby Scholars are required to complete two hours of community service. Scholars must submit a form documenting their hours that includes a signature of the person in charge of the service activity by the deadline noted above. The form can be submitted various ways: turn it in to your school counseling office; drop it off at the Crosby Scholars office; upload the form to the My Documents page (drop down of My Crosby page) of your Crosby Scholars student portal; take a picture of the form and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org; fax it to 704.762.3513; send via US mail.
Scholars who completed the Crosby Scholars Program during the previous school year may count hours volunteered after the previous year's deadline, including summer volunteer hours, toward the following school year's requirement.
Community service must be performed with a non-profit agency or be an activity that benefits a non-profit agency. The volunteer commitment can be fulfilled through scouts, school clubs, civic organizations, and/or certain church activities. While membership in a club or organization does not count as service, volunteering in the community in a club-sponsored activity does. For example, being a member of a youth choir doesn't count, but singing at a nursing home with the choir qualifies as service hours. If you have questions about whether your community service idea meets the requirement for the Program, please contact Crosby Scholars at 704.762.3512. Crosby Scholars Program staff reserves the right to determine if a community service activity fulfills our requirement.
- Grade Advisor Program
Realizing that college preparation must begin early, program staff assigns 9th- and 11th-grade scholars a volunteer Grade Advisor.
- The Grade Advisor Program was established to offer underclassmen the opportunity to meet with an advisor during the spring semester of each school year.
- Grade Advisor assignments are based on the scholar's grade and high school. Scholars are notified by email when their Grade Advisor assignment is confirmed.
- Grade Advisor meetings are group meetings and therefore are not rescheduled unless school is closed or after-school activities are canceled.
- Topics discussed at Grade Advisor meetings help prepare scholars for the college admission process.
- Meetings are held monthly beginning in January. The Grade Advisor Program concludes in May.
- Meetings are held after school, at school, and last approximately 30-40 minutes.
- Attendance is taken at each meeting and is recorded in our office.
