It is that time again for the request of your help to contribute your time to help with the Can Collection for the Sounds of Christmas fondly known as the Living Christmas Tree of First Baptist Church but very different this year.

As you have probably heard FBC is “taking” the message to the people.  We will be in the parking lot of our former mall proclaiming the real meaning of Christmas.  This move offers everyone a chance to reach folks that would have never darkened the church doors.

Saying that it would be greatly appreciated if you could help out with the can food collection for Rowan Helping Ministries, let me share.

There will be 3 services, one on Saturday, December 12 at 4 pm and two on Sunday, December 13 at 4 pm and 7 pm.   You would need to be at the RHM trailer which will be parked near the fountain at the mall 1 hour before.  We will be collecting the cans in a drive-thru experience so “your safety” will be a major concern.  We are still tweaking the plan, as on any mission trip, we are going to be fluid and go with what is best for the mission at hand so your duties may vary.  There are needs for receivers, assemblers, transporters, packers, and trailer captain.

Receivers will retrieve the cans from the vehicles as they drive by.  You may be required to wear a reflective vest.  You will take the food to the assembly tables.

Assemblers will put multiple cans in larger tote bags.

Transporters will be carrying the tote bags from the assembly table to the RHM trailer, taking the items out, setting them on the table and returning the empty tote bag to the assembling tables to be refilled.

Packers will be assembling the cans in large banana boxes to be stacked inside the trailer.

Trailer Captain will oversee the packing of the cans in the banana boxes (more details at site) and be able with help, to lift the boxes to stack them within the trailer.

Last year the trailer was over ¾ full with boxes stacked as high as they could go.

In most all the areas listed above you will have adults working on this project in various areas.  Joyce Curl is the team leader and will assist you in any way possible and make any changes necessary.

FOOD!!!  yes there will be food!  Meals will be served for supper both Saturday and Sunday.  When you sign up, Joyce will be in contact via phone, text or email to confirm you plan to eat.  She has to make your reservations.   The meal reservation must be in the music office by Sunday, Nov. 22.
