Crosby Scholarships

Rowan County Crosby Scholars has 10 scholarships that are only available to our Crosby Scholars Seniors! Since our scholarships aren't available to everyone, you are only competing with other Crosby Scholars in your graduating class! Take a look at our list of scholarships to get an idea of what is required for each application.

Crosby Scholars Impact Scholarship

$1,000 renewable - up to 4 years of college ($4,000 max)

  • One recipient per high school (ERHS, JCHS, NRHS, RCEC, SHS, SRHS, WRHS)
  • Essay prompt: “Please share some specific instances of how being a part of the Crosby Scholars program has made a positive impact on your life and your college access journey.”
  • Attend a 2- or 4-year college or university
  • Maintain above a 2.0 minimum college GPA

 

Goodwill Willpower Scholarship

Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina helps people overcome barriers to gainful employment. The Goodwill Willpower Scholarship provides one scholarship annually to a Crosby Scholar senior who has overcome adversity while pursuing his/her educational goals and has emerged with a remarkable story of willpower and determination. Applicant must plan to enroll in a two- or four-year college or university.

  • $1,000 non-renewable
  • Actively participate in extracurricular programs
  • A 500-word (max) essay describing how willpower and determination have helped you overcome challenges you have encountered in your life. Describe how you overcame obstacles and found success.
  • Applications will be reviewed by the scholarship committee and finalists may be asked to interview with the committee

 

Victoria and Antonio Munoz Scholarship

$1,000 non-renewable

  • Have at least one parent from a Latin American country
  • Must be Spanish-speaking
  • Have a minimum unweighted GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Essay: a 300-word minimum essay on the topic of how your family came to the US and the barriers your family had to overcome

 

Joyce Kohfeldt Memorial Scholarship

The Joyce Kohfeldt Determination Award provides one scholarship annually to a graduating Crosby Scholars senior who has overcome adversity while pursuing his or her educational goals and has emerged with a remarkable story of determination. Applicants must plan to enroll in a two-year or four-year college or university.

  • $1,000 non-renewable
  • Actively participate in extracurricular activities
  • An essay describing how determination has served you well throughout your life, and how it will continue to serve you as you embark upon your college journey (500 word maximum).

 

Paul Fisher Memorial Scholarship

The Paul Fisher Scholarship is a non-renewable $1,000 scholarship to one graduating Crosby Scholar senior who is a first-generation college student (neither parent has received a Bachelor’s degree) and plans to attend a four-year college or university.

  • $1,000 non-renewable
  • Actively participate in extracurricular activities
  • A 250-word (max) essay discussing how you’ve been inspired educationally and how you hope to inspire others

 

Sue P. Fisher Community Service Scholarship

Requirements: Be a first-generation college student and a person who: 1) has overcome adversity 2) shows respect for all others (parents, teachers, law enforcement and community leaders) 3) has demonstrated qualities of a leader 4) has demonstrated the willingness and value of serving others.

  • $1,000 non-renewable
  • Attend a 4-year college or university
  • Be in good standing as a Crosby Scholar
  • A 300-word (max) essay answering the prompt: “How do I plan to be an agent of POSITIVE CHANGE in my community?”

 

John A. Carter Memorial Scholarship

The John A. Carter Memorial Scholarship annually awards a non-renewable $1,000 scholarship to one graduating Crosby Scholar senior from a middle-income family with financial need who plans to attend a two-year or four-year college or university.

  • $1000 non-renewable
  • Have a household adjusted gross income (AGI) between $60,000 and $100,000 based on 2022 tax returns
  • A cumulative unweighted GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • A 350-word (max) essay answering the prompt: “Which adult in your life has had the most impact on you and why?”

 

John O. Reynolds Memorial Scholarship

$1,000 non-renewable

  • Have a household adjusted gross income (AGI) below $60,000 based on 2022 tax returns
  • A cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.25 or higher
  • Two 250-word essays answering 2 of 3 prompts:
    (1) "What are your short term and long term goals?"
    (2) "What do you think will be your biggest challenge in college and why?"
    (3) "What has been your greatest accomplishment thus far?"
    recipient must enroll in a two or four year college or university

 

David Post Public Service Scholarship

The David Post Public Service Scholarship is a non-renewable $1,000 scholarship to one graduating Crosby Scholar senior who demonstrates academic ability and strong community involvement.

  • $1,000 non-renewable
  • Attend a 4-year college or university
  • GPA of 3.3 (unweighted) or higher
  • 500 word essay answering the following prompt:
    "A primary driver of economic development is local schools. Many of the employees of some of the largest local companies do not choose to live in Rowan County. What can Salisbury and Rowan County do to enhance its schools so that people who work here want to live here?"

 

Bob Casmus: Medical/Health Care Scholarship

$500 non-renewable

  • A graduating Crosby Scholar Senior who plans to enroll in a two or 4-year college or university who intends to pursue a degree in the allied health care field of study
  • Senior must have a GPA of 3.0 or better
  • Submit a 300-word (minimum) essay as to why he/she is choosing to enter the medical field and include goals and aspirations
